Proactive Drive consist of four modules

Module One (theory)

Module Two, Three and Four (Practical)

In car practical application in which pupils in groups of three or four are accompanied by one of the instructors. The instructor demonstrates the following aspects and then in turn pupils take the controls and put both the relevant theory of Module One and the practical demonstration to the test.

Course Overview

Module One (theory)

A theory session of forty minutes during which time the co-ordinator explains by diagram and commentary what happens to a motor vehicle in times of loss of control and/or emergency action required for accident avoidance. Also demonstrated by diagram and commentary is how the driver can dramatically alter these two situations by reacting in differing ways.

Module Two

A coned brake box is set up where pupils are both shown (by the instructor) then put into practise themselves the techniques of understanding the effect of weight transfer on steering and brake efficiency at varying speeds also gaining an understanding on the effectiveness of pulse braking and the principles of ABS brakes. To show how to take speed and steering, split and deal with separately, not to try and deal with them similtaneously as most drivers do before they crash.

Module Three

A coned slalom course aimed at demonstrating the principles of “four star” vision. By adopting wider than tunnel vision pupils can couple this with proper hand, feet and eye co-ordination to safetly traverse the slalom.

Note: “Four Star” vision involves constant awareness of all areas of vision – side, front, close and distant. This module also highlights the best and worst modes of weight transfer which once demonstrated can then be effectively controlled.

Module Four

A coned corner situation is established. To negotiate this module correctly pupils have to draw upon the knowledge demonstrated and then explained (by their own endeavours) in modules one, two and three.
